This is a Seascape photography workshop taking place at Cape Vidal on the North Coast of KZN in SA.
We do not have fixed dates for hosting a workshop here but we can host it on request. The workshop can be based on improving your seascape photography as well as the editing/retouching of your photos afterwards. We can accommodate a single person for more of a private photography experience or we can take groups up to 6 people.
Cape Vidal is one of the most beautiful unspoiled beaches on the entire North Coast of Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa. Cape Vidal falls within the Isimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site and is situated North-East of St Lucia. A true gem with magnificent beaches, plant life and wildlife.
We will focus on Seascape Photography that includes landscapes with water and rocks and beach scenes.
Most of these photos will be taken during and just before and after sunrise and sunset. If the weather and time permits we will also do star/star trail photography at night.
We will work out a price for you depending on the group size, type of accommodation, meals, etc.
Workshop led by:
Accommodation and meals can be included.
Self-catering holiday cabins and campsites are available at Cape Vidal. Preferably we will make use of the cabins.
Format: Informal workshop and practical instructions when in the field.
Requirements: You must be walking fit. We do a lot of walking on the beach and some minor climbing over rocks.
We will start off on the Thursday afternoon with a short brief of what we will be doing the next couple of days, some pointers on seascape photography and after that a sunset shoot on the beach. After that, we can have a braai (barbecue) or you are welcome to take it easy after your travelling to get there and have your own dinner at your place.
On the Friday morning we will get up very early and head out to the beach to get ready to shoot at sunrise. I will help each and everybody setting up their camera for better compositions and help with camera settings etc. Depending on the weather we will be finished shooting approx 1 or 2 hours after sunrise. After breakfast, we will get together again, download the photos, and do basic Photoshop skills to enhance your photos taken. I will help by answering questions, look at your photos you took and give advice on composition, light, focus etc. I will teach you more about camera settings, composition and if the class is up to it, HDR photography (photo blending). The rest of the day is free time and you can relax, do more photography, go for a swim or go for a game drive in your own vehicle in the beautiful Isimangaliso Reserve.
We will get together again an hour before sunset on the beach for a sunset shoot. Dinner after the sunset shoot.
We will do the same on Saturday. If the weather permits we will probably be shooting at another stretch of beach approx. 1 km to the South of Cape Vidal. It takes 1 hours’ casual walking on the beach to get there but it is totally worth it. On one of the afternoons, we will also be shooting at Mission Rocks that is situated 15 km to the South of Cape Vidal. We will be driving there. From the parking area, it is a short walk to some of the best rocks in that area. By this time, you will know a lot more about photographing seascapes.
On Sunday, you are required to vacate the cabins or campsites by 10H00. You are welcome to spend the rest of the day on the beach or head for home if you need to travel a bit far.
